It is a physical wine, courageous, pugnacious for its minerality and flavor. But behind a translucent shell, almost a transparent lemon rind like a green, glimmering arrow, it is a wine with a delicate soul capable of gushing emotions to the nose and the mouth. It is in this extraordinary character that the mother Lugana is reflected—shining and luminous, stimulating and harmonious, soft and resolute, ready for sturdiness, but at the same time ready for pleasantness—the capacity to recall dreams and inklings of lemon and citrus, of white flowers and field grasses. Ready for friendship and dialogue, it knows how to stay at table, with grace, from drinks to delicate starters, also raw, from delicate first courses to seafood, expecially from freshwater.
It is a wine that sings. With simplicity, but joyfully. Already by appearance: light yellow, clean to the eye, with rare bits of bright green. And to the nose, to which it opens with a certain timidity, but then there is flowers and fruit, also pear. The fruit is simple, clean but decisive in the mouth, where it places itself with mineral freshness.
Grapevine: Turbiana 100%
Geographic location: The communities of Sirmione and Pozzolengo, area south of Lake Garda
Exposure: south, southeast
Average altitude of the terrain: from 60 to 80 meters above sea level
Type of terrain: cretaceous-clay
Training: simple or double Guyot but short, 3,500-4,000 plants per acre
Yield per acre: 125 quintal (12,500 kg)
Harvest: the harvest is done from the end of September until the middle of October with particularly ripe grapes. First cluster are carefully, then begins the real, proper harvest in small crates
Winemaking: soft pressing of the grapes with a maximum extraction of 60% of flower must, static cleaning and vacuum filtration of the must. The alcoholic fermentation is done by selected leavenings at controlled temperatures (14°-16° C), taking place in stainless steel vats for three weeks. The wine remains in its leavenings for about six months until spring of the next year, evolving and completing its malolactic fermentation. Bottled during the Easter period, after a brief ageing, it is sold on the market. In special vintage years with early maturation of the grapes and of the wines, the bottling of a single lot can be anticipated in order to appreciate the fresh young fruitiness and the pleasant, winning taste of the Lugana
